God Explained is a blog that explores these questions in a clear, straightforward, and accessible way, without an agenda. Our aim is to help you understand the things you read, hear or see about God, faith, religion, or atheism without assuming you already made up your mind, or trying to convert you in the process. 

With so many videos, podcasts, blogs, and social posts competing for attention, it can be difficult to know what is thoughtful, what is persuasive, and what is just noise. So God Explained unpacks the common claims, answers the difficult questions in plain language, and helps you weigh the evidence for yourself. Ultimately, whether you believe God exists is your decision; our goal is simply to make that journey clearer – and maybe save you a few brain aches on the way.

It is important, honest, and it’s just a quick bit of background before you go any further. Think of it as the airline safety briefing…except more important.

So, what’s so important?

Just this: you need to be clear before you go on that whether you believe a god exists is up to you. Totally up to you. We can’t prove it either way—despite what anyone may claim—so you have to decide for yourself based on what you read, hear, and watch. Unfortunately, by the time any of us finds out for sure it’ll be too late to change our mind, which sucks, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have an opinion beforehand.

“Fine, but how does that relate to what I read on this site”, I hear you ask.

That’s a very good question. Well done you.

In fact, it relates to anything you read, watch, or hear on this topic, because almost everyone comes at it from a point of view. God exists, says one person. No, he doesn’t, says another. Yes, he does. No, he doesn’t. Rabbit season, duck season…BAM!!!

Anyway, this site aims to answer the many questions you may have if you’ve started researching God, faith, belief, or any of the big awkward stuff that tends to come with them. The goal is not to convince, but to clarify—to clear out the weeds, explain the basics, and help you decide for yourself. Which, in the end, is exactly what it must come down to.

So, there will be no sales pitch here, and no attempt to tell you what to believe. There will be opinions—oh yes, plenty—but not the kind designed to do your thinking for you. You should be able to make up your own mind, as your conscience dictates. Comments and constructive criticism are welcome, but debates and arguments aren’t the point. Opinions are like noses…everyone’s got one. (Cleaned-up version. You’re welcome.)

Oh, and you really should pay attention to airline safety briefings—if only out of respect for the flight attendants. They do them far more often than you watch them. I suppose for them they’re sort of like karaoke, but every day and without the vodka shots.
